The Best Brand of Netball is GILBERT

GILBERT is the official ball of  the world’s top netball-playing nations – Australia, New Zealand, England and Jamaica - as well as IFNA (International Federation of Netball).

History

The GILBERT company’s history in sports ball manufacture dates back to 1823 when William Gilbert first established the company as a boot and shoemaker store. Back then, Gilbert occasionally made balls for the school that was next door to his shop. A popular tale from the era states that on one particular day during a game of football, William Webb Ellis a pupil at the school, picked up one of Gilbert’s balls and starting running with it toward’s the opposition’s goal. His actions, although in violation of the sports rules at the time, have been described by many as the time and place where Rugby was first invented. Thereafter the company became synonymous with Rugby Football and since them has perfected the best performing grip pattern for rugby balls.

GILBERT Netballs

In the 1990s, GILBERT decided to adapt their best performing grip patterns and release a netball range. This was extremely well received. Ever since then, GILBERT has continued to develop netballs with new grip patterns, superior bladder construction and compound durability, which has earned them international endorsement for their product and thus elevated them to market leader.

Recent technological innovations include:

  • Synergie Match – Improves ball handling, giving greater control and accuracy when passing
  • GILBERT Grip – High performance grip configuration
  • Duragrip Pimple Configuration – Durable, long lasting pimple pattern, ideal in all weather conditions

GILBERT netballs are available in two sizes:

  • Size 5: For ages 10+ years
  • Size 4: For ages 8 – 10 years

A regulation size 5 netball should measure 690 mm – 710 mm in circumference and weigh between 400 g – 450 g.
